Telefonica Moviles Espana picks Comverse multimedia messaging service center

Comverse, a unit of Comverse Technology (Nasdaq:CMVT), today announced that Telefonica Moviles Espana, the operator of Telefonica Moviles Group (TEM) in the Spanish market, has selected the Comverse multimedia messaging service center (MMSC) to be deployed side-by-side with a third party MMSC to support high-volume personal and application-based multimedia messaging in Spain.
Comverse Europe division president Giuseppe Elli said, "As the largest wireless operator in Spain, with more than 18.6 million customers, Telefonica Moviles Espana's selection of Comverse further strengthens Comverse's position as one of the market leaders of MMSC, based on the demand for flexible high capacity side-by-side solutions."

Telefonica Moviles Espana is the operator of Telefonica Moviles Group in the Spanish market, where it offers a comprehensive portfolio of data services and applications using the latest mobile technologies, including GPRS, MMS and UMTS. Last May, Telefonica Moviles Espana launched commercial UMTS video calls services and 'Oficin@ MoviStar UMTS-GPRS' service for all clients.

Telefonica Moviles SA manages all the Telefonica group's mobile operations throughout the world. It is one of the world's largest mobile telephony companies and leader in the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking mobile telephony market, with an active customer base of 55.8 million. The company reported net profit of €1.608 billion in the end of 2003. Telefonica Moviles' shares are traded on the Spanish and New York Stock Exchanges under the ticker symbol TEM.
