Mivtach Shamir seen acquiring Gilat Satellite for $480m
Sources inform ''Globes'' that the board of satellite terminal company Gilat Satellite Networks is due to meet this evening to approve the sale of the company to a consortium headed by Mivtach Shamir Holdings Ltd. and the Los Angeles-based private equity group Gores Group LLC. Gilat has been given a price tag of $480 million for the sale, a premium of 16% over its current market cap of $412 million. Gilat has been seen as a potential acquisition target since early last year.

AOL to pay $850M for social network Bebo
NEW YORK - AOL said Thursday it will pay $850 million to acquire the online hangout Bebo, giving the struggling Internet company a foothold in an expanding business. Bebo is one of the largest social networks in Britain, is ranked No. 1 in Ireland and New Zealand and has a global membership of more than 40 million, according to AOL. In the United States, however, it ranks third behind MySpace and Facebook.

France Telecom buying Emblaze's Orca
France Telecom subsidiary Viaccess is buying the Israeli company Orca Interactive from the London-traded Emblaze group for $21.4 million, Orca said yesterday. Viaccess is buying 100% of the cellular technology firm's shares three and a half years after the company was floated in London. Completion of the transaction is subject to approval by Orca Interactive shareholders at a meeting scheduled for April 15.

Microsoft buys Israeli ad targeting co YaData
Microsoft Corp. has acquired Israeli start-up YaData Ltd., provider of advanced tools for the discovery of unique customer segments. The companies did not disclose the price tag or other financial details, but sources inform "Globes" that the deal is estimated at between $20 million and $30 million.

RR Satellite makes first US acquisition
RR Satellite Communications Ltd. has made its first acquisition in the US. Through subsidiary RRsat Global Communications Inc., the company has signed an agreement to acquire the Hawley Teleport located in Pike County, Pennsylvania, from Skynet Satellite Corporation for $4.25 million.
